Robyn Poulin - Coach
I was born and raised in Vancouver competing in high school volleyball, tennis, track and field and cross-country. I turned to road racing throughout my university days while completing my Bachelors of Science with specialization in Dental Hygiene at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. After completing university I trained and competed at Sylvan lake and Kona for 70.3 Ironman’s.

I stayed in Edmonton until my husband finished his schooling, and we moved with our one child to Vernon. Soon after moving to Vernon I had a second child but continued to train and race when I could. After our third child arrived I found the VAAA club, and joined ready to train for middle distance. I trained with the VAAA as a senior athlete for a couple of years and then I was coached and mentored by Wally Strang, a retired Olympic coach for the next three years. I had the opportunity to train with the UBCO cross country team, which was an invaluable experience and provided a great training atmosphere.

I am currently taking courses related to changes in the literature regarding training women from puberty to peri and post menopausal stages of life. I am passionate about athleticism throughout each stage of life and the necessary adaptations needed to be active for as long as possible. Currently I am working towards my club coach certification. I hold the 400m BC Masters record, achieved 2nd place in 2019 BC XC Championships masters, and bronze in the XC Canadian Championships masters.

Renee Schommer - JD Coach
I have been involved in track and field, and many other sports, my whole life. In my early years, I competed at the Provincial and Junior Canadians level, finishing in the top 3 for 100m + 400m hurdles. I also excelled in long jump and triple jump. Later on I enjoyed running half marathons while living in Vancouver. These days I enjoy hiking, swimming, biking and skiing with my 2 children. I am excited to put my coaching experience to use by helping coach this year's JD athletes!
